Wind in Business

The implementation of renewable energy is a slow process in the Netherlands. In Paris, the climate goals are set for the future. This means a sharp reduction of fossil fuel use through renewable energy. The climate and energy policy 2030 is an initiative of the European Commission and was presented in 2014. It sets out the main lines for European energy and climate policy after 2020 and until 2030. This will enable the Commission to provide a long-term perspective for investment, to become more sustainable, safer and competitive EU energy system. The EU is aiming to make sources of renewable energy in 2030, 27% of its energy needs. By 2020, this goal is 20%. At present, the percentage of renewables in The Netherlands is 6% (CBS, 26-5-2016). Renewable energy sources include wind energy, solar energy and energy from biomass. Realizing wind energy is a difficult process in the Netherlands. There is much opposition. Opposition because turbines pollute the landscape and cause noise or nuisance to flora and fauna. It is easy to organize a number of citizens who oppose the plan and bite into it. This can train the planning process for years, reducing the chance of success. There is little space for wind energy and it is difficult to implement.

Sustainable landscapes

Business parks in Gelderland seem a beautiful location for achieving the wind ambition with smaller turbines. Turbines with a low ash height are easy to implement in large numbers and with little nuisance. By choosing smaller turbines, the inconvenience is lower and they vanish in the background of the urbanized landscape. Landscape pollution is low here and the turbines make a positive contribution to the appearance on the site. They contribute to the quality of the location as a focal point. Individual turbines or turbines aligned are easily integrated into the industrial sites that are often organized in a grid structure. Electricity produced on location contribute to cost reduction for products and services. Turbines contribute to a strong circular economy and sustainable development and thus a positive image of business parks. Wind energy can be combined with biomass cultivation such as willow cultivation. Energy production is easily combined with landscape and recreation. Through participation in business areas, companies, employees, neighbourhood residents and co-financiers will become owner of the project.

Wind in business is part of the Maak Gelderland Mooier project of the province of Gelderland.
